NMCAP works to assure that the diverse populations of New Mexico receive high quality, culturally appropriate HIV prevention, education and care.
Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care Training
The New Mexico Department of Health, Office of Health Equity is pleased to offer the online courses, CLAS I: Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards and CLAS II: Critical Concepts in Cultural Competence. Links to the courses are both below and on the right.
The CLAS I course has been divided into two parts; the first part provides a brief historical and legislative overview of the CLAS standards. The second part gives participants an up close look at each standard and provides practical implementation strategies.
The training will prepare health professionals and health care agencies to:
- Address the cultural and linguistic barriers to health care delivery
- Increase access to health care for racial, ethnic and other minority populations
- Understand health risk factors and successful prevention/intervention strategies
- Provide implementation strategies to comply with the CLAS Standards

LGTBQ: Health and Advocacy Online Training
The New Mexico Department of Health, Office of Health Equity is pleased to offer a two part training featuring Robert Sturm, MA, Executive Director of the New Mexico Community AIDS Partnership. The New Mexico Community AIDS Partnership (NMCAP) was founded in 1993. NMCAP works to assure that the diverse populations of New Mexico receive high quality, culturally appropriate HIV prevention, education and care. Their focus is on innovative and collaborative programs, targeting otherwise underserved and vulnerable populations.
This training is designed to be inclusive of staff in medical, public health and mental/behavioral health settings. Participants who view both Part I and Part II videos can earn 2 cultural continuing education credits (CEUs) approved by NM-NASW or 2 CEUs from the Office of Community Health Workers.
